My wife’s family has been summering at Chautauqua for over 25 years, and I have been as long as I’ve known her, now 15 years. Our kids just finished their first summer there, now third-generation Chautauquans. That pales in comparison to some families there, who may be in sixth-, seventh-, or eighth-generations.
If you haven’t been, and are near Western NY State’s Southern Tier, do yourself a favor and spend a few weeks there. Our summer was full of sailing, ballet, opera, lectures, art, books, food, wine, sunrises, sunsets, and good life.
We hunt spring turkey in western PA and NY state, so the terrain is a bit different than in this article. This G&G article is a good look at one of my favorite May rituals from the perspective of a first-timer.
Anyone going after gobblers this spring? I’d love to hear where you’re headed.
